Win friends for life
Fans, friends, contacts. They're what everyone wants and lots of organisations rush headlong onto social networks. Sadly, inexperienced "contact anglers" often get their lines crossed before the first fish has taken the bait. A large budget can go some way to replace experience – but it is no guarantee for success. What are really needed are a clearly formulated aim and a precisely focused concept. That is why we ask two main questions at the beginning of any collaboration: Firstly, what is your specific aim? And secondly, which target groups are we addressing and which channels will be used? Together with you we then develop the concept, communication and, if things don't go exactly to plan, escalation. You can safely leave the execution of the technical realisation to us, thanks to our reliable and proven skills in this field.
BMZ social media presence
When the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) started to become involved in social media networks, we were with them right from the start, providing support in terms of advice, concept, graphics and technology – across all platforms.
The Facebook fan page was launched in the summer of 2011 to accompany the citizens’ dialogue campaign “Future Concept”. Users receive the latest information about the work of the BMZ here in the form of texts, images, links and videos. They can post comments on the pinboard and discuss with the BMZ issues relating to cooperation and development. The BMZ presence on Google+, which was realised by us, offers the same range of functions. It was established some years ago and is still the only German ministry on Google+. On Twitter, BMZ provides its subscribers with tweets on news, events and forthcoming trips.
On the occasion of its 50th anniversary we launched a YouTube channel for the BMZ at the end of 2011. Right from the outset there has been plenty happening here. The channel offers extensive video material that gives direct insights into the work and projects of the BMZ. Furthermore, it offers an opportunity for dialogue and an exchange of opinions – clips may be commented on, rated and recommended. This represents a further step in taking development policy to the heart of society.
In order to maintain an overview of its own social media activities and to find out what is being written on the web about the ministry and its fields of work, we have introduced social media monitoring and supervised its integration into the daily public relations work of the company.
